Modi tours Masmak Palace

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the accompanying high-ranking delegation visited the historic Al-Masmak Palace here Saturday evening.
Upon arrival at the castle, Modi was received by Prince Saud Bin Sultan Bin Abdullah, researcher at the International Cooperation Department of the Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage (SCTH); Dr. Ali Bin Ibrahim Al-Ghabban, vice chairman of SCTH for antiquities and museums’ affairs, and Nasser Al-Arifi, director of the museum.
Modi was briefed by Al-Ghabban on the salient features of the palace and its historic position, describing it as one of the historical landmarks in the capital city. The prime minister also watched a video, presenting various phases of the struggle of King Abdulaziz in capturing Riyadh and starting the unification of Saudi Arabia. Modi toured the palace and witnessed the displayed antiques, rare pictures and paintings. Al-Ghabban presented Modi a memento from Prince Sultan Bin Salman, president of SCTH, on the occasion.
After King Abdulaziz captured Riyadh in 1901, he built the palace on the site where his forefathers had ruled. For more than 30 years this was his home and his headquarters, where he ran his military and political campaigns to conquer and unify the Arabian Peninsula. It remained the seat of national government until his death in 1953. Last September, for the first time, the royal family opened the palace to the public, with a free exhibition celebrating the unusual coincidence of the Saudi National Day and Eid Al-Adha, the feast of sacrifice.
The enormous palace covers 11,500 sq. meters. When it was built, it was the largest structure in Riyadh, which was then not more than a provincial town of adobe buildings surrounded by a wall.

Modi mesmerizes workers in Riyadh camp

It is the smell of your sweat that has brought me here, said Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to a packed marquee of skilled and manual workers of Larson and Tourbo involved in the Riyadh Metro project.
Modi was visiting the workers residential complex on the outskirts of Riyadh on Saturday, the first day of his two- day official visit to the Kingdom.
“Your sweat not only feeds your family back home, but it also brings pride and honor to India,” said the prime minister to thunderous applause by the workers.
Giving references of history, he said that Indian workers had been involved in the development of many countries. He said Mauritius government has made a huge museum at the place where first Indians landed, giving history of Indians hands in the development of that country.
“You too will be remembered by the people of Riyadh for giving the city this metro,” he said to the chant of Modi, Modi.
He thanked Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman for hosting Indian workers. “Whenever I had the opportunity to talk to King Salman, he was always all praise for Indian workers. This makes me proud,” he said.
He announced two initiatives for the welfare of Indian workers in the Kingdom. One is the Indian welfare center and the other a 24×7 helpline desk.
The prime minister also informed the workers about two portals for their welfare — Madad and emigrate.
After his address, Modi freely interacted with the workers, shook hands with them and even had snacks with them.

Modi touches hearts of Indian workers at Saudi Arabia

New Delhi: He is not just a good orator and an ace policy maker. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday touched the hearts of many migrant construction workers by having lunch with them at the L&T residential complex at Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

During his 2-day Saudi trip, Modi visited the workers' residential complex of L&T, which is part of a consortium that is building a section of the Riyadh Metro. Appreciating the efforts made by the workers for the Riyadh metro rail project, he said “your hard work has brought me here.”

He said that the work being done by Indian workers abroad, not only earns money, but also raises the stature of India. Indian workers were fondly remembered in various parts of the world where they had completed many prestigious projects. In future, the Riyadh Metro too would similarly evoke memories about Indian workers who had contributed to its construction, he said.

The Prime Minister said he often gets to know about Indians working abroad through letters he receives from their relatives. He shares both their joys and their sorrows through these letters. "I feel I am a part of your family," he said.

The Prime Minister mentioned the "e-migrate" initiative of the Union Government, which would facilitate people who wished to work abroad. He said more "worker resource centres" would be opened, and the MADAD portal was a way to immediately reach the Union Government. The Prime Minister said that India has the capacity to give the world the manpower it requires.

The gathering of over a thousand workers, cheered enthusiastically on many occasions as the Prime Minister spoke. The Prime Minister later mingled with the assembled workers and shared snacks with them.
